Too much things and no time to write here. Sorry.

Well, here we go with our first interview, KR aka KRINK aka Craig Costello, don’t need an introduction, but if somebody don’t know him i’ll introduce him in few words. KR is an independent manufacturer of markers and inks. Based in the city of NY where he produce his hi quality and very nice look products. In fact is a cult hero in the marker scene and have many rip off brands in both sides of the atlantic. The products are expensive, but you’re buying something more than a marker …

Let’s go …

I see in internet a picture of an old green plastic bottle with a KRINK label handwrited,
how many bottles like this you sell before the creation of the KRINK branding?
The bottle you mentioned was never for sale. I would give ink to friends and put a sticker on the bottle or write a tag on it.
I did not start making Krink to sell, I made it to use it and write. It was only much later that I decided to start selling it. I was making Krink, catching drippy tags, etc… for about 8 years before I sold the first bottle. Today so many people want to sell things to ‘cultures”. They start a business, but have no history, it’s very strange sometimes, but the almighty dollar (or Euro) rules.

How many people are involved on KRINK right now?

Not many. We are very very small, and we are making moves daily.

Are you a marker collector?
if yes, how you feel about all the another marker collectors who have KRINK in his vitrines?

I have some old markers that I keep, but I do not have too many.I am very flattered that people keep Krink markers or bottles of ink because they like the brand, the design, or that it means something to them.

When i see your catalog i think in brands like Markal, Dalo, Marsh and all this industrial marker brands, very heavy products for workers. I’m in the right way if i think you’re more influenced with this kind of hardware than graffiti brands?

Yes this is the style of ink that I used before I started making Krink. Industrial quality was the best and it was a big influence in making Krink ink and styling. There were not many graffiti brands when I started making Krink, and for me to brand something “graffiti brand” is too narrow. I have many other creative interests and I  don’t want to held to just one style.
Also, when I was writing graffiti, I was very nondescript and low-key. I would never advertise myself as a writer, for me it was about being unexpected. You could not see that I was a writer at just a glance, and I think this is also reflected in Krink style.

Tell us, what’s the most weird question or sugestion about KRINK you heard ever?
Girls who want to put on their body.

I have two limited editions of KRINK in my collection, The Silver Sharpie and the Beautifull Losers K-70.
Have any new release for this 2009?

Yes, we just released a co-branded marker with “Married to the Mob” a women’s street wear line from NYC.
We just did a marker for Andre from Paris for the release of his Belvedere vodka brand.
We have more things coming, but I can’t say now.

Do you want to say something more to our readers?

Experiment, be creative, stay positive. It is the haters and nay-sayers that will be forgotten.

Both, depends on the job.

Both, depends if I am writing on dark or light colored surface.

Can’t have the new without the old. Everything is a progression and is tied together.

Comercial or DIY?
Again, both have their place, depends on the situation.
I like DIY, because that is how my personality is, I don’t like things too commercial, but of course it has it’s place.

Muchas cosas has pasado últimamente…

Me reuní con unos amigos de Sâo Paulo que echo mucho de menos, he pintado un poco tuve la suerte de conocer y hablar con BLU en The influencers, un tipo muy amable e inteligente y he acabado una formula própia de “stealth ink”.

Muchas cosas y poco tiempo para escribir en el blog, disculpas.

Bien, vamos allá con nuestra primera entrevista, KR aka KRINK aka Craig Costello, no necesita introducción, pero si alguien no lo conoce os lo voy a presentar en pocas palabras. KR es un fabricante de rotuladores y tintas independiente. Ubicado en NY donde produce sus preciosos productos. De echo se trata de un heroe de culto en la escena de fabricantes de marcadores y tiene un montón de marcas intentando copiarle en los dos lados del atlántico. Sus productos pueden ser un poco caros, pero estás comprando más que un simple rotulador…

Vamos allá …

Ví en internet una foto de una botella antigua de plástico verde con una etiqueta de KRINK escrita a mano, cuantas botellas de este tipo vendiste antes de empezar con la marca tal y como la conocemos ahora?

La botella de la que hablas nunca estuvo a la venta, acostumbraba a dar tinta a mis amigos y ponía una pegatina en la botella o le hacia algún tag.
De echo yo no empecé a crear KRINK para venderla, La hacía para pintar. Sólo fue más tarde cuando me decidí a empezar a venderla. Estuve como 8 años haciendo chorretes y tags antes de vender la primera botella. Hoy mucha gente quiere vender cosas, empiezan una empresa sin contar con una historia. A veces resulta muy extraño, pero quizás son las salvajes leyes del euro…

Cuanta gente forma parte actualmente de KRINK?

No demasiados, somos muy muy pequeños, hacemos cambios cada día.

Eres coleccionista de marcadores?
Si es así, como te sientes con que el resto de coleccionistas tengas tus productos en sus vitrinas?

Tengo algunos rotuladores antiguos guardados, pero no demasiados. Me siento muy halagado de saber que hay gente que guarda los botes de tinta o los rotuladores de KRINK porque le gusta la marca, su diseño o que para ellos signifique algo especial.

Cuando veo tu catalogo pienso en marcas como Markal, Dalo, Marsh y todas estas marcas de rotuladores industriales, productos muy resistentes para trabajadores. Estoy en lo cierto si creo que estás más influenciado en este tipo de productos que en marcas de productos para graffiti?

Si este es el tipo de tinta que usaba antes de empezar a hacer KRINK. La calidad industrial siempre fue la mejor y eso me influenció en el estilo y la manera de ser de KRINK. Y como no habian demasiadas marcas de graffiti cuando yo empecé a producir y para mi el concepto “marcas para graffiti” es un término demasiado simple, tengo muchos otros intereses creativos, no quiero encerrarme en un estilo concreto.

Incluso cuando pintaba graffiti siempre fui con aspecto discreto, nunca mostraba que era un escritor, para mi es mejor resultar insospechado. No se podía decir que era un escritor por mi aspecto, solo por verme y creo que esto se refleja también en el estilo de KRINK.

Cuéntanos, cual es la pregunta o sugerencia más rara que te han echo sobre KRINK?

Hay chicas que quieren echárselo por encima del cuerpo…

Tengo un par de ediciones limitadas de KRINK en mi colección, El Sharpie plateado y el K-70 de Beautifull losers.
Alguna novedad para este 2009?

Si, acabamos de lanzar una colaboración con la marca de ropa de chica de NY “Married to the Mob”. Realizamos un rotulador para André de Paris para el lanzamiento de su vodka “Belvedere “. Y más cosas, pero no te las puedo decir…

Experimentad, sed creativos y manteneos positivos. Son los envidiosos y los malvados los ue serán olvidados. La paz y el amor siempre nos puede salvar el día.

No se puede tener lo nuevo sin lo viejo. Todo es una evolución y van de la mano.

Comercial o DIY (háztelo tu mismo)?
Otra vez, los dos tienen su espacio y depende de la situación.
Me gusta mucho el DIY, porque es parte de mi personalidad, no me gustan las cosas demasiado comerciales. Pero por supuesto tienen su sitio.
